Capt. Justin T. Issler, commanding officer of George H.W. Bush, said: “Our crew has performed exceptionally while underway, demonstrating discipline, resilience, and unity. This port visit provides a well-earned opportunity for our Sailors to rest while reflecting on the professionalism they bring to every mission.”
Alliance and regional context
The Navy noted Thailand is the United States’ oldest partner in Asia and its only treaty ally in mainland Southeast Asia. Strike-group leadership is due to meet Thai civilian and military officials, with community events planned including a US–Thailand soccer match.
The carrier’s turn into the Indo-Pacific for rest follows an intense period of US naval activity tied to Operation Epic Fury and the Hormuz-area blockade. Officials have not framed the Phuket call as a drawdown of Middle East posture; other US carriers and amphibious groups remain assigned or en route to the wider region according to recent US and allied reporting.
