PHILADELPHIA — Kyren Williams ran for two touchdowns in the final four minutes as the Los Angeles Rams rallied from a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat the Philadelphia Eagles 24-20 on Sunday, the Associated Press reported.
Both teams are now 2-2. The Rams had blown a 16-point lead in a loss at Denver a week earlier.
The fourth-down turning point
Philadelphia led 20-10 when coach Nick Sirianni passed up a chip-shot field goal that would have made it 23-10 and went for it on fourth down instead, AP said. The Eagles failed to convert.
Matthew Stafford then led a 98-yard drive, helped by an unnecessary roughness penalty, that ended with Williams' 1-yard run with 3:59 left. After an Eagles punt, the Rams went 79 yards in 10 plays, and Williams broke several tackles on a 7-yard winning touchdown with 1:10 remaining.
"You go for it and you get it, great," Sirianni said. "You go for it and don't get it, that's on the head coach."
Jalen Hurts was sacked twice on Philadelphia's final possession. He threw two first-half touchdown passes to Darius Cooper but finished 12 of 27 for 93 yards, AP reported. The Eagles managed just 172 total yards and went 0-for-12 on third down.
Stafford uneven but clutch
Stafford, the reigning MVP, completed 32 of 51 passes for 317 yards with two interceptions, which led to 10 Eagles points in the first half. Puka Nacua, back after a two-game absence, caught nine passes for 125 yards and ran for a touchdown.
"Plenty of plays where we didn't get the result we wanted," Stafford said. "But we got the result we wanted at the end of the game."
"I think a lot of teams would have folded in those situations," Rams coach Sean McVay said. "I think our defense kept giving us a reason to believe."
It was McVay's first win over Sirianni, who had been 4-0 against him, AP and NBC News noted.
"By any freaking means, get your butt in the end zone," Williams told the Fox broadcast of his mindset on the winning score, NBC News reported.
AP said Eagles running back Saquon Barkley injured his right hamstring. The Eagles play Jacksonville in London next Sunday, while the Rams host Buffalo on Monday, Oct. 12.
