The Houthis have also claimed attacks on Saudi energy infrastructure, including an alleged strike on an Aramco-linked facility near Riyadh — a claim the Saudi-led coalition has called misleading. On Sunday, Presidential Leadership Council chief Rashad al-Alimi announced the start of military operations to retake remaining Houthi-held territory after what he said were exhausted peace options.
Humanitarian stakes
Taiz is Yemen’s third-largest city, home to hundreds of thousands of civilians as well as government forces, according to reporting cited by L’Orient Today. The World Food Programme said last week that three in four families in parts of Yemen were going hungry amid the surge in fighting, which has displaced tens of thousands and disrupted supplies to millions.
