Energy UK is calling for targeted support beyond the £150 Warm Home Discount, eventually leading to a discounted social tariff; a debt-relief scheme for the most severely affected households; and shifting more levies from electricity bills into general taxation as part of electrification, the BBC reported.
Crisis warnings from suppliers and No 10
EDF Energy boss Simone Rossi said the UK was “walking into a second energy crisis.” Prime Minister Andy Burnham told the BBC he would not call that an overstatement and said ministers were looking at any measure that could give people “breathing space.” Adam Scorer of the charity National Energy told BBC Breakfast the rise in debt was “not more people getting into debt” but “more poor people getting into more serious levels of debt.”
