HOUSTON — CeeDee Lamb caught a career-high 17 passes for 189 yards, and his 12-yard touchdown reception with 40 seconds remaining gave the Dallas Cowboys a 34-30 comeback win over the Houston Texans on Sunday, the Associated Press reported.
The defeat left Houston winless at 0-4, while Dallas improved to 2-2.
Prescott's late drive
Dallas trailed by four after a 6-yard touchdown run by Woody Marks with about two and a half minutes to play. Dak Prescott then led an 11-play, 74-yard drive that included a fourth-down conversion and finished it with the throw to Lamb. C.J. Stroud's desperation pass on Houston's last chance fell incomplete.
"As soon as it was called, I knew it was a touchdown," Prescott said, according to AP.
Javonte Williams ran for a career-high three touchdowns, all in the second half, and gave Dallas its first lead with a 2-yard run that made it 27-23 with about 11 minutes left. Prescott threw for 335 yards and Stroud for 347. Nico Collins had seven catches for 118 yards and two touchdowns in his return from a hamstring injury, AP reported.
Lamb joins rare company
NFL Research said Lamb became only the fourth player in league history with at least 17 receptions, 180 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown in a single game, joining Hall of Famers Tom Fears (1950) and Terrell Owens (2000) and Brandon Marshall (2009). NFL.com noted that 11 of his catches, for 140 yards, came after halftime.
Lamb lived in New Orleans until his family relocated to the Houston area after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, AP said.
"My grandma came out here, which was really good to see," Lamb said. "It's just been a long road to end up in this situation and I'm grateful for it."
"I know how much Houston means to him and his family means to him. And he put on a show," Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said.
Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said: "We just did not play well enough defensively and it's really a bad feeling."
The Cowboys host Tampa Bay on Thursday night, while the Texans visit Tennessee next Sunday.
