ST ANDREWS, Scotland — Adrian Meronk of Poland won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship by two shots on Sunday, overhauling overnight leader Casey Jarvis on the Old Course to claim his fifth DP World Tour title after a wait of 1,078 days.
The 33-year-old closed with a 4-under 68, according to the Associated Press and Sky Sports, to finish on 20 under par. Jarvis, who shot 72, tied for second with Denmark's Niklas Nørgaard.
Jarvis falters around the turn
Meronk made up a two-shot deficit early with three birdies in his first five holes, AP reported. Jarvis then three-putted the ninth for bogey and dropped another shot at the par-3 11th after failing to get up and down.
Meronk birdied the 12th to move two clear and stretched his lead to three with another birdie at the 14th. A bogey at the Road Hole 17th did him no lasting harm, as Jarvis also bogeyed the 17th and needed an eagle at the last to force a play-off. His long putt from the Valley of Sin missed.
"I never usually cry, but this one feels really special," Meronk said. "I'm lost for words. I'm extremely happy and quite relieved."
Tour card secured
The win gives Meronk a full European tour card for 2027, AP said. The DP World Tour said he had been 141st on the Race to Dubai Ranking heading into the event. Meronk, who joined LIV Golf in 2024, was among eight players who accepted a deal from the European tour earlier this year that allowed him to keep his membership, according to AP.
He also won the team title with Keane lead singer Tom Chaplin, becoming only the third player in the event's 25-year history to win both the individual and team competitions, the DP World Tour said.
Meronk said he thought of Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus as he crossed the Swilcan Bridge on the 18th. "I was asking for good energy from them," he said, as quoted by Sky Sports.
Stewart's dream week
Scotland's Michael Stewart, ranked No. 979 in the world and playing on the Tartan Pro Tour earlier in the week, tied for fourth with Tommy Fleetwood after holing out for eagle at the 13th. Fleetwood's 64 was the lowest round of the day.
